This group covers Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and other Asian cuisines that are not Chinese, and the etiquette varies by kitchen. Japanese and Korean restaurants often take reservations for dinner and may add a service charge for large groups; Thai and Vietnamese spots are usually walk-in and quick-turnover. Spice levels are frequently adjustable on request at Thai, Indian and Sichuan-adjacent menus, so say if you want it mild or hot. Korean BBQ restaurants typically charge per person for all-you-can-eat service with a time limit, and grills are shared at the table. Vietnamese pho shops post bowl sizes (regular or large) and a plate of herbs, bean sprouts and lime is normal to add yourself. Card and tap-to-pay are widely accepted; cash-only is more common at small family-run counters.

Austin is in Texas, in the South, where summers are hot and humid, winters are short, and severe storms in spring are a fact of life; businesses run air conditioning most of the year and many open early to beat the heat. Traffic in Austin peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Definitely a unique Texan-Japanese fusion experience. The atmosphere is quirky and loud (they do fun announcements of every guest arriving), interesting decor and an eclectic 1960s-2000s music mix. The dishes were all phenomenal and the service quick. They were also very accommodating with a gluten allergy concern, marking the menu and annoying every dish that arrived. The cocktails were delicious and strong too. Don’t be shy to ask for recommendations! Parking can be tight and reservations are recommended.

Our experience at Kemuri Tatsyua was absolutely amazing. There was a slight hiccup, as it took us almost 30 minutes past our reservation time to be seated. However, the staff's attentiveness made up for any inconvenience that the situation might've caused us. They offered us a free Taiyaki Cornbread starter, which was absolutely delicious! I loved the flavor of the butter it was served with and the dish itself felt extremely inventive. Our main courses were nothing short of life-changing. I ordered the Brisket Dipping Ramen, and while I am already a fan of dipping ramen, this dish revolutionized it for me purely through being incredibly delicious. The Kar-age is a Ramen-Tastyua classic and it was great as always. I also wanted to mention how lovely our server Chris was. He truly went the extra mile! He took some of his own time to get a question answered for us, which I really appreciate. Finally, the banana pudding dessert is a must have. I didn't think I could like banana pudding anymore than I already do but this dish made it possible. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also incredibly cozy and enhanced the experience quite a bit. I 1000% recommend this restaurant to everyone

Cannot recommend this place enough for a truly memorable meal-- I came with a massive group for my 30th birthday without a reservation (get there before 5 to avoid a crowd), and the staff were accommodating to a truly unbelievable extent-- within 20 minutes we had two big tables, a fairly-priced omakase guided dining experience ($60-65 per person-- not cheap, but a great and fair price for a special occasion experience). Waitstaff were attentive and informative, and generally great to talk to about any of the dishes and drinks. We had a vegetarian and a soy/MSG allergy in the group, and both had special menus catered to them created on-the-fly. I truly have not experienced service this friendly and incredible before. On to the food: I was, with no exaggeration, dreaming about several dishes on the following nights. The beef tallow edamame were perhaps the greatest veggie side I've ever had, and the smoked eel hand rolls were transformative for me. The melding of Texas BBQ and Japanese tavern fare was unbelievable well-done, from the cornbread taiyaki to the smoked fish collars. Everything was obviously delicious, but even more than that, every fusion element just made *sense* once

bring back the 🎍 and the plants out in the patio. It was way too hot for outdoor seating. Add more fans or mist please. Food was delish though and decent service. Get the BBQ boat, it comes with a bento box, and all the meat!! πŸ– Burnt ends is a must have dish and the corn cakes were also a must try. Eel was good but bad portions and def get the JFC chicken karage, fried to perfection and nice bite sized pieces. Reservation strongly recommended.

One of our regular spots when we visit Austin. We’re usually not big fans of any fusion concept restaurants but Kemuri’s Texas-Izakaya works very well. We love the fish-collar, the sashimi specials and anything grilled on a stick (e.g., short-ribs, scallops or yakitori). Everything is executed perfectly. The sake and cocktail selections are top shelf and complimentary as in a traditional izakaya. The service is always outstanding and makes for a fantastic visit every time. We’ve never gone wrong and we highly recommend. Great location to start the night and nearby for other activities after.
